This year’s Advent Devotional — entitled And He Shall Reign — was written by sixteen members of the North American Lutheran Church (NALC) staff and based on words in Revelation 11:15. The readings each day are based upon the daily lectionary provided in the NALC Devoted To Prayer daily prayer and reading guide, which is also an adapted version of the daily lectionary in the Lutheran Book of Worship. PDF copies of this devotional booklet are available for download below for printing for individual use or distribution in congregations.

The season of Advent is upon us, and it is time, once again, to prepare our hearts for the coming of Jesus and His eternal reign. It is our hope that this devotional will aid and bless your personal reflections during this season.

Has Christmas lost its significance? It’s one of the most familiar stories in human history: the birth of Jesus in a lowly manger in Bethlehem. A Savior, which is Christ the Lord. Yet, how can we prepare our hearts to celebrate the birth of our Savior in our frantic, consumer-driven society? How do we make sure the Christmas holiday remains a Holy Day?

We invite everyone to take a time out this Advent Season to join the Tuesday Night Bible Study Group starting November 29th. In each of these four Advent sessions you will experience cinematic short films that capture events surrounding the birth of Jesus Christ and how Scripture brings us back to the roots and heart of our faith in Christ. Join us for Supper starting at 6 pm and Bible Study starting at 7 pm. Childcare is provided.

Our next Java and Jesus will be on December 7th, 2022 at Swallow Coffeehouse in Lake Mills. Join us from 7:30 pm – 9 pm each first Wednesday of the Month for a great time of worship and study of God’s Word.

What is included?
– A Free Beverage
– Snacks
– Contemporary Christian Music
– Fellowship
– Prayer
– Fun

The Service of the Longest Night, or Blue Christmas, is a deeply meaningful way that the church can accompany those who struggle during the holiday season as well as acknowledge the pain experienced by many worldwide. For many people, the approaching Christmas holiday does not bring with it the joy and happiness that is advertised on television or in greeting cards. They may be facing a holiday after the death of a loved one or after a divorce. Perhaps they have been unable to have a child or have suffered through an emotional trauma. Or perhaps they feel pressured and overwhelmed by holiday preparations.

The Service of the Longest Night has a quieter, more somber feel than a traditional Christmas worship service. Scripture, music, and meditations focus on the comfort God offers during these darker times of the year. It is a place where many will have an opportunity to grieve, but also to experience that hope that only God can give us. There is an emphasis on candles, with people being invited to come forward and light a candle in memory of someone or to mark an event in their lives. Some will say words out loud, others in silent prayer.

Everyone in the community is welcome to attend the service. It will be a wonderful opportunity to have a quiet, spiritual time amid the busy season of Christmas.
